Hit & Flop

I am digging the curling. I watched a little curling during the last Olympics, but I didn’t pay much attention. It was something of a mystery to me when I first started watching. What’s an end? What are the symbols displayed on the screen? What’s the strategy? Fucking fascinating. On top of all that, these athletes seem like the bowlers of the Olympics. They are the “athletes” that don’t seem so “athletic”, the ones who really do eat at McDonalds, and are the only ones eating the chocolate pudding in the Village cafeteria. The commentary is sooooooo serious. They compared curling to chess. Yeah. What? I’m not really seeing that comparison, but I’ll keep watching.

  1. Since I'm barely glancing at the Olympics, I do so love your off the wall commentary and pics!

  2. Chess? More like Sweeping The Floor After Customers Leave McDonald's. ;)

  7. Candid, I sure hope they play the medal winning round of the curling matches in primetime- you gotta see it.

Damn. Just watched Lost, now back to 'lympics. I haven't watched this much tv since, ever.

  12. It's like a combination of pool, bowling and shuffleboard. It's surprisingly engrossing, though I suppose it helps that I enjoy two of those three activities, and like the slower pace of baseball better than the freneticism of soccer or hockey.

  13. argh, all the curling is in the middle of the day.... I guess I'll have to do with "live coverage on computer". But it is not as fun.

Looking forward to the hockey tonight :)

  14. My husband was captain of his high school curling team. So was his brother. He screams at the TV every time they throw a stone.

Yes, we're Scottish. Well, he is. I'm a confused / bored Yank. I have never seen anyone get so worked up over a sport that barely qualifies as a sport.

  15. Curling online, all the time. And I have to say, that shit is VICIOUS. You can sweep your opponent's stone thingie out of the bullseye and totally f--- up a great (alleged) throw.
Devious curlers, hoarding the rice pudding in case some of the aerial dudes are thinking of carb loading.
    Awesome.
